Opposition response to the ombudsman’s report arrived quickly. This morning, the Social Policy spokesperson for the Popular Group in Parliament, Elena Bastidas, stated that the document reveals Puig’s colors and shows his government blocks progress on social policies in the Community. Bastidas emphasized that the 2022 annual report, released yesterday by Valencia defender Ángel Luna, confirms that the most vulnerable residents remain forgotten by the Puig administration, which took months and even years to decide and approve measures aimed at easing their situation.
Similarly, the PPCV deputy noted that delays in processing the Valencia Inclusion Income remain a daily problem, marked by dysfunctions in administration, processing issues, and even occasional rejections. The Conselleria de Aitana Mas assists those who meet all requirements. A Social Policy spokesperson added that the most vulnerable people need a rapid response and should not be subjected to a double punishment by the Valencian Government.
Ombudsman warns of administrative negligence against citizens
Looking towards the social sphere
Bastidas pointed out that Aitana Mas continued with the same errors as her predecessor, Monica Oltra. There is little progress. Delays persist in approving files for benefits, and the same patterns appear in addiction care. He also highlighted delays in issuing titles for large families and single-parent households, which leads to the loss of benefits or, as the report notes, slows down the foster family program.
Social services remain responsible for 35.5 percent of citizens’ complaints to the Ombudsman. The administration must not hinder or delay citizens in matters of transparency, attention, and file resolution. The Puig government has spent eight years undermining social policies that appear strong in talk but are weak in results.
