The neighborhood associations of Alicante’s 2nd District Executive Board gathered this Friday with leaders from the city’s main political groups in a session that mapped the eleven priority areas where residents feel action is most needed. The gathering framed the proposals as an electoral program, reflecting the consensus among the district groups and the voices of local residents about the tasks that matter most for their neighborhoods.

The invitation reached every group represented in the general assembly. Most political factions attended, with two notable absences. Representing the Mayoral Candidate from PSOE, a group stood alongside United for Alicante, while Vox was represented by Mario Ortola, the current city spokesperson. Despite arriving a bit late, Compromís joined the discussion.

From the Northern Territory, participants outlined a focused plan centered on eleven shared priorities. The goals emphasize practical improvements that residents say will raise daily life in their districts.

  1. Security and coexistence

  2. Social services

  3. Programs and resources for seniors

  4. Urban cleaning and waste management

  5. Living conditions in neighborhoods

  6. Accessibility and inclusion

  7. Medication access

  8. Sport and recreation

  9. Parks and green spaces

  10. Culture and community spaces

  11. Mobility and transport

Neighbors describe the memorandum as a historical debt tied to various projects proposed by the Alicante City Council, urging timely action that matches the district’s needs.

On security, the group prioritizes the creation of a Citizens Protection and Coexistence Commission and the establishment of clear controls in training facilities and attendance. In social services, a key aim is a fast-response unit for social emergencies, available on weekdays and extended coverage on weekends. For senior residents, the focus is on promoting personal growth and supporting longer, healthier participation in community life.

Beyond improving street maintenance and urban cleanliness, the plan calls for the installation of public restrooms and a formal agreement to rehabilitate residential buildings. The proposal also emphasizes making public spaces accessible for all, aligning with universal design principles.

Regarding the spray and prevention measure, organizers stressed that the objective is to implement a socio-educational and community intervention program within public secondary schools in the Northern District. In sports, the focus is on conditioning and rehabilitating all sporting facilities, reviving the Villafranqueza sports ground, and maintaining parks and playgrounds for children.

Culture is seen as a distinct space from social services, recommending that cultural venues be managed under the Ministry of Culture. The only mobility initiative highlighted is a guided northward tour.

Representatives from the four parties involved acknowledged the proposals during a Friday meeting in the Colonia Requena District, signaling a shared path forward in the district’s development plan.
