Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz of the Civic Coalition spoke on Radio Zet about making public the power dynamics observed in recent years, tying her remarks to plans for creating three investigative committees. Jarosław Sellin of the ruling party Piratów? No, PiS offered a sharp retort, saying, 9f you cannot provide bread, you organize gamesc.
Three investigative committees
At the next Sejm session, deputies will discuss three KO-drafted resolutions aimed at forming three investigative bodies. The proposals cover the envelope elections, the visa scandal, and a broader inquiry into the legality, regularity, and purpose of intelligence and operational activities, including the use of Pegasus software from November 16, 2015 through November 20, 2023.
Radio Zet featured remarks from several guests, including Małgorzata Paprocka, a minister in the KPRP, Michał Kobosko of Poland 2050, Jaros2aw Sellin of PiS, and Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz of KO.
Gasiuk-Pihowicz attacks the president
When asked about the effort to establish the three investigative committees, Gasiuk-Pihowicz stressed that the timing of government approval by Andrzej Duda remains uncertain, implying delays could extend further.
She pointed out that statements from the president could push the process to the back burner, while emphasizing a desire to quickly reveal to the public what she called the pathological power mechanisms observed in recent years.
– she stated.
Games instead of bread
The first committee, focused on envelope elections, was described as well prepared by Gasiuk-Pihowicz.
We know who decided on envelope elections, who executed those decisions, and who implemented them.
– she said.
In response, Jaros2aw Sellin asserted that if bread cannot be provided, one should not pretend to offer games instead.
He noted that the coalition agreement forming the new majority contained no concrete specifics, and that the proposed three commissions would proceed without linking them to any established scandals.
– he said.
Discussing the envelope elections, Sellin recalled that the elections were planned during the pandemic, adding that a political pledge existed to hold elections and that some form of implementation was necessary.
– he declared.
Małgorzata Paprocka also responded in a similar tone, pointing out that the elections ultimately did not take place.
– she emphasized.
Did voters want the PiS government to be held accountable?
Michał Kobosko of Poland 2050 argued that establishing investigative committees was necessary.
A substantial portion of voters who backed democratic opposition parties reportedly want a positive program, while also insisting on accountability for the PiS government.
– he said.
According to Kobosko, creating a committee to probe envelope elections is especially important. He argued that involving the post office in the democratic process, in a manner he described as illegal and procedural violations, requires transparency and explanation.
– he said.
By Wednesday evening, the Civic Coalition press service announced that KO had submitted draft resolutions to the Sejm for the creation of investigative committees, focusing on the visa scandal, Pegasus, and envelope elections. The announcement of the committees had been made earlier by the leader of the Civic Platform, Donald Tusk.
The first draft resolution seeks a commission to investigate the legality, regularity, and purposefulness of actions related to the stay of foreigners in Poland from January 1, 2019, to November 20, 2023, including potential abuses, negligence, and omissions in the process.
The Commission of Inquiry into the envelope elections aims to examine the legality and appropriateness of actions taken during the preparation and execution of the 2020 presidential elections conducted by post. The draft specifies scrutiny of the decisions by government ministers, including Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Deputy Prime Minister Jacek Sasin, along with their subordinates, as well as how directives from government members were carried out, particularly by the Polish Post and the Polish Security Printing House.
A separate draft resolution calls for an Inquiry Commission to investigate the legality, regularity, and purposefulness of operational and intelligence activities conducted, including the use of Pegasus software by members of the Council of Ministers, secret services, police, tax authorities, and budgetary control bodies during the period from November 16, 2015, to November 20, 2023.
