The referendum question will focus on backing government policies aimed at countering the forced relocation of illegal migrants, according to Jarosław Kaczyński, the Deputy Prime Minister and leader of PiS. He noted that voter lists for the PiS are still in progress and that the process remains lengthy.

In an interview, Kaczyński was asked whether the Law and Justice electoral lists are ready.

They are not ready yet, and a long process lies ahead. Participation in the campaign, the strategy for it, and evaluations of the past four years will shape the order and inclusion on the lists. At this point, it is simply too early to finalize these lists, he explained.

Asked whether politicians from Sovereign Poland will be included, the PiS president said, “Everything suggests they will be found.”

Just as representatives from all groups in Bogatynia — both small and large — joined in the broader United Right, so too will representatives from these groups appear on the lists. He added that he cannot specify exact placements yet, though conversations have begun.

The PiS leader noted that Sovereign Poland’s politicians “will not do any harm, given what they have contributed so far.” However, he stressed that others, including the main party bearing the greatest burden, must also be aware of the balance in responsibilities.

There is no intention to hurt them. The past collaboration was different, but politics demands goodwill, he added.

When asked whether the planned referendum question on migration was already defined and whether the issue would be discussed at the next Sejm session, he said they were still deciding on timing. “The form of the question will address accepting the government’s policies to counter forced relocation,” he explained.

He also noted that a referendum is a tool that can be used repeatedly and not always aligned with elections. “This year’s timing coincides with the election, and for budgetary reasons it has to be done this way,” he added.

Perhaps there will come a time when questions touch on sovereignty or other problems, but now is not the best moment. There are many issues in the election campaign, and this is too important to mix with other topics or the campaign noise, he explained.

NATO summit in Vilnius

Kaczyński was also asked what he expects from the NATO summit in Vilnius and his view of the aid package for Ukraine announced by the alliance’s secretary-general, including a long-term armament plan and a commitment to add more in the future should Ukraine join NATO.

If such a guarantee is provided, it would mark a significant shift in how various countries approach this issue in recent years, the PiS president asserted.

He believes that aid packages will be confirmed, even though there are signs that some assistance intended for Ukraine could be redirected elsewhere, though he did not specify where. He stressed that the aid would remain far from the frontlines.

If details about Ukraine’s NATO membership are revealed at the summit, it would be a very positive surprise, the PiS leader concluded.
