If turnout reaches more than half of eligible voters, a referendum on the migration pact will be held and its result would bind the government, compelling real policy steps. This stance was voiced by PiS MP Marcin Przydacz on neo-TVP Info, where he explained why his party pushes for a national vote on this agreement.

Announcement of the collection of signatures for the referendum

At the end of June, during a party convention in Pułtusk, PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński announced the start of an initiative to gather signatures for a new referendum aimed at ending the migration pact.

From September, signatures will be collected to demand a fresh referendum. The move is presented as a prerequisite for advancing a new proposal, with the belief that a successful referendum would lead to the pact’s termination. The goal is portrayed as a national duty that can be achieved today.

– the leader of the United Right stated at the time.

Kaczyński also recalled last year’s referendum, which the then opposition boycotted and which the current ruling coalition—by December 13—also refrained from fully supporting.

Let us not forget what happened not long ago during the elections. A referendum was held, calls for a boycott were heard, and in many places actions were taken to discourage participation. Some sought to invalidate ballots, and those efforts proved successful, a fact he noted.

– he commented.

The PiS MP explains

During a broadcast on neo-TVP Info, PiS MP Marcin Przydacz—previously the head of the President’s Office of International Policy and former deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs—was asked by a viewer in the program Bez retuszu about the purpose of such a referendum if the majority of ruling parties in Poland do not support the migration pact as it stands.

The representative reminded viewers that the Polish Constitution places sovereignty in the hands of the nation. He expressed that a referendum could be ordered in the first place and that, in the autumn, signatures would be gathered. He indicated that roughly half a million signatures would be the target.

– the parliamentarian noted.

He also urged that the democratic institutions, as they call themselves today, should not ignore the fact that half a million or perhaps even more Polish citizens would be waiting for such a referendum.

– Przydacz added.

If turnout surpasses 50 percent, the referendum would be binding on the government and would require tangible action to be taken.

– Przydacz explained.

Speculation continues about whether Tusk and his allies will support or reject the call for a boycott of what many view as a significant poll. Time will tell how this develops.
