The Ministry responsible for Sustainable Economy, Productive Sectors, Trade and Labor announced an extension to the validity of the existing concession agreement. The ITV service, operating within the territory of the Valencian Community, will run the extension from January 2 to February 22.

Minister Rafa Climent explained that the 53-day extension covers the period from March 17 to May 8, 2020. During that stretch, authorities decided to close ITV stations across the Valencian Community in response to the state of alert linked to the health crisis and the broader pandemic emergency, a time when delivering the service was not feasible.

As a result, seven franchisee companies that provide the ITV public service, distributed physically across the Valencian Community, will be able to continue operations until February 22, which marks the conclusion date of the new contract. After that date, the service will shift from private management to public administration, directed by the Valencian Vehicle Technical Inspection Association led by Josep Albert. The concessionaires had requested a six-month extension, which was not granted; instead, the extension was set at 53 days.

Climent emphasized that, according to the report, the intention of the change proposal is to implement only the measures strictly necessary to offset downtime experienced by dealers. The alarm status has been set at 53 days.

From that point onward, the Generalitat Valenciana, through its publicly traded company Valencia ITV Association, will directly supervise the ITV service. The aim is to increase efficiency, boost competitiveness, improve quality, modernize the ITV network, and lower prices to benefit citizens by reducing rates. The minister also met with the seven franchise companies on Monday to brief them on the extension through February 22.
