Immigration and the Election Campaign in Poland

Immigration stands as a central topic in the current campaign, attracting widespread attention from voters and commentators alike. The concern is real: mounting migratory pressure could intensify, and some fear that a future administration might ease border controls. Debates have also spilled into popular culture, with coverage surrounding films such as The Green Border, directed by Agnieszka Holland, which critics say frames border protection in a provocative light. The conversation extends beyond policy circles and into everyday media narratives, influencing how people perceive the candidates and the stakes involved. (attribution: wPolityce)

According to studio research conducted for the portal wPolityce.pl, Donald Tusk’s credibility on border defense appears to be relatively low among surveyed respondents. The survey asked respondents to evaluate a hypothetical scenario:

In your opinion, if Donald Tusk wins the elections and becomes Prime Minister, will he agree to accept immigrants from the Middle East and Africa under the relocation mechanism imposed by the European Union?

Affirmative responses accounted for 45 percent of participants. Negative responses reached 27 percent, while 28 percent did not express an opinion. (attribution: wPolityce)

Interestingly, the survey shows support for concerns about border policy crosses party lines. Not only do voters from Law and Justice and Confederation feel that Tusk will permit greater entry, but about one in three voters from Poland 2050 and 22 percent of Civic Coalition supporters share that view as well. The fieldwork was conducted from September 1 to 4, 2023 using the CAWI method (Computer Assisted Web Interview) on an online panel designed to be nationally representative in terms of gender, age, and place of residence. A total of 1,049 individuals participated in the study. (attribution: wPolityce)
