Hungary Confirms Sweden NATO Accession Steps and US Safekeeping

Hungary has submitted a document confirming Sweden’s approval to join NATO to American authorities for safekeeping, as announced by Peter Szijjártó, Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations. The information was reported by TASS.

According to the minister, Hungary’s Ambassador to the United States, Szabolcs Takács, delivered to the U.S. State Department a paper showing that the Hungarian Parliament had endorsed Sweden’s participation in the alliance.

“That document was handed over there,” the head of Hungary’s foreign policy department indicated.

Szijjártó stressed that this action encapsulates all the steps Hungary has taken to secure Sweden’s membership in NATO.

The protocol confirming Sweden’s official accession to NATO was noted as valid as of March 7. This confirmation came from the U.S. State Department.

Historically, in White House discussions, Sweden has been described as a country with a robust democracy and a highly capable military. Officials in Washington have argued that Sweden’s alliance would bolster the security of the United States and other NATO member states.

Earlier statements mentioned considerations about Sweden’s role within NATO and potential implications for regional security.
