Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Ministry of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz says the matter involving the President of the Sejm, Szymon Hołownia, is clear. Hołownia denies ever studying at Collegium Humanum, and Kosiniak-Kamysz states he fully trusts the coalition partner’s explanation and the steps taken to address the issue.

A couple of days ago Newsweek reported that Szymon Hołownia, leader of Poland 2050 and the Sejm’s chairman, studied at Collegium Humanum. Later that evening Hołownia denied the newspaper’s claim in a discussion with reporters inside the Sejm building.

Hołownia will defend itself

Hołownia warned that if it turns out state agencies were involved and spread false information to journalists or others to harm his reputation ahead of the elections, the situation would be serious and could trigger a crisis of confidence within the coalition.

At a press conference the day before yesterday he added that he was weighing legal action against Collegium Humanum for the improper handling of his personal data.

“I will do everything I can to defend my good name”, he said. The Poland 2050 leader noted that, like thousands of others, he has become a victim of this university. “I believed I could study and graduate there normally, but the institution has shown a troubling reputation”, he added.

Hołownia’s stance was clear and his explanations thorough. Kosiniak-Kamysz said he fully trusts the Sejm chair’s account and that the coalition stands fully behind Hołownia in this matter.

The remark appeared on the X platform from Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Ministry of National Defense.

Collegium Humanum scandal

Since February, authorities have been examining irregularities connected to Collegium Humanum, now known as Varsovia University of Business and Applied Sciences. Newsweek reporters revealed that the private university offered fast-track programs granting MBA degrees. Such diplomas could ease access to supervisory boards of companies linked to the Ministry of Finance.

The credibility of Collegium Humanum documents was said to be guaranteed by foreign universities, but those institutions were not authorized to validate MBA studies. Graduates of Collegium Humanum have included politicians, heads of state finance agencies, intelligence officers, and senior military figures.

Since February, around thirty people have been arrested in connection with the Collegium Humanum affair. The operation has already involved figures such as former PiS MP Karol Karski and Wrocław mayor Jacek Sutryk.
