The president of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, announced yesterday that the Consell will establish a €50 million Forestry Cooperation Fund aimed at safeguarding crops in strategically important zones. A dedicated hotline, described as a pioneer service, will be set up to help prevent wildfires before they begin.
The announcement came during the Civil Protection Achievement awards, a ceremony recognizing public congratulations to all departments, organizations, and individuals who contributed to fighting the large forest fires that swept Vall d’Ebo and Bejís this summer. The event was attended by representatives from Venta del Moro, Useres, Calles, and Gabriela Bravo, the minister responsible for Justice, Interior, and Public Administration.
Puig emphasized that the plan is part of a broader effort to generate economic and employment opportunities during this decade of transformation. He highlighted Valencia’s natural heritage as a vital asset, describing it as a lung that provides oxygen in the face of growing environmental challenges. The goal is to balance environmental protection with sustainable regional development, ensuring communities that depend on forested areas can thrive as risks are mitigated.
five million for crops
As part of this strategy, the Consell outlined a fire prevention framework that includes channeling €50 million to municipalities for improved forest maintenance, enhanced fire prevention measures, and active reforestation efforts. In parallel, €5 million will be directed to farmers who cultivate or rehabilitate crops within strategically important forest zones. These investments are designed to attract new economic opportunities to rural areas and bolster resilience through the Avant Strategy and the new Llei Antidespoblament, which focus on supporting communities at risk of population decline.
