Stellantis earmarks funding to electrify Figueruelas plant

The Stellantis facility in Figueruelas is set to receive a significant funding boost aimed at electrifying its operations and expanding the plant’s capacity to build electric vehicles. Industry officials described the 42.7 million euro allocation as a very important development for the site and the broader regional auto sector.

The announcement also introduced a new hotline for the automotive industry as part of Stellantis claims during the Perte program presentation. In addition, the plan confirms that Vigo and Madrid factories will benefit from the industrial transformation program, activities that were initially left out but are now included under the Koç framework. These measures are designed to align regional production with the country’s push toward electrification.

The investment will support adapting the Figueruelas site to produce electric vehicles. A new model will join the Opel Corsa in the plant lineup, with the Opel e Corsa currently manufactured at Figueruelas. While officials did not disclose the exact model, there is strong speculation that the Peugeot e-208 could be the candidate, an expectation shared by some workers who anticipate Line 2 on the production floor will host the new model alongside the Opel Corsa.

Stellantis Zaragoza will assemble this new model, with details to follow. The project benefits from the incentive package tied to the Stellantis industry plan and is part of the Spanish government program under the Perte for electric vehicles.

Corsa seen as a turning point for the plant

José Luis Alonso Mosquera, the plant manager in Zaragoza, framed the moment as a celebratory milestone. He recalled that the original Corsa launched a new aesthetic and performance standard in its segment back in 1982 and highlighted the company’s long history of evolution. With more than 14 million vehicles produced, the group is poised to introduce a new electric version under the Opel and Citroën brands, signaling a new era for the factory.

Between the two milestones, the Figueruelas facility has grown into a key economic engine for Aragon and a reference point for Spain’s automotive industry and the Stellantis group. The leadership emphasized that achieving these milestones would not be possible without the dedication of the entire workforce at the plant, underscoring the critical role of the local team in driving continued innovation and production capability.
