Eight-year gains could vanish if power shifts, Polish PM warns

Eight years of momentum could suddenly vanish in as little as eight months or eight weeks if the political forces already in power choose to pursue a drastic shift that destabilizes public finances. The Prime Minister warned in Otwock that a swift ascent by opponents could trigger a deep societal crisis in Poland.

During the gathering, the Prime Minister highlighted that PLN 1 billion had been allocated over seven years to social policy in Otwock and its surrounding areas.

This funding represents resources redirected from those who benefited from improper practices and tax gaps during previous administrations. It stands as a commitment to social and financial security, the Prime Minister stated.

“We have redirected money from the state budget to invest in Otwock, and the evidence is clear. This creates opportunities for more rapid and better development,” the head of government explained.

He warned, however, that these opportunities could disappear if irresponsible actors gain power. “Eight years of progress could be undone in eight months or eight weeks because the risk is real and the threats are practical,” he noted.

According to the Prime Minister, such prospects would emerge when radical changes are pursued by those who have already demonstrated a willingness to destabilize public finances, contributing to a significant VAT gap in the country’s history.

“People should be cautious,” he urged. “A rise to power by those who have already shown a disregard for stability could spell a major tragedy for Polish society.”

“This is a remarkable achievement by the governing party,” the Prime Minister added, turning to the issue of illegal immigration. He asserted that Poland would only be free from this problem under the governing party’s leadership.

He argued that the sole guarantee against illegal immigration entering Poland lies with the governing party. “We have demonstrated this once before, as such a situation has occurred,” he claimed.

Since 2015, the Prime Minister noted, key figures from the European political landscape have repeatedly aligned on migration policy. He argued that some European partners welcomed Poles to work in other countries but now express dissatisfaction as more Poles return home to Poland.

He framed the policy as a major achievement by the governing party, while noting that some European partners remain unsatisfied and seek to shift the burden elsewhere.

He concluded by reiterating the need for steadfast governance and prudent fiscal stewardship to preserve Poland’s economic gains and social protection programs for communities like Otwock.
