President Andrzej Duda said a discussion about Ukraine with President Donald Trump was on the horizon. He voiced confidence that the forthcoming talks would move the conversation in a productive direction and that the decisions Trump would make would be prudent. He argued that allowing Russia to prevail in Ukraine would contradict the scale of American investments and the taxpayers’ money dedicated to Ukraine’s defense. The emphasis was on respect for taxpayers and the United States’ active role in supporting Ukraine.

Trump and Ukraine

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, who took office in October, visited Warsaw to confer with Prime Minister Donald Tusk and President Andrzej Duda. At the press conference following their second meeting, reporters sought clarity on who might join the future cabinet and what stance Trump would take toward Ukraine.

Duda replied that he did not have an answer yet on a detailed policy toward Ukraine since Trump had not assumed office and had not publicly outlined a plan.

He noted that media rumors were plentiful, yet he knew Trump well from their earlier interactions, including a lengthy talk in New York in April about Ukraine.

He added that Trump, as a person, was a proven winner—tough, determined, and not fond of losing, a fact reinforced by the results of recent U.S. elections.

“’America won’t lose’

He pointed out that Trump deeply respects American taxpayers’ money, a point Trump has often made publicly. Duda recalled hearing him speak at NATO gatherings about the costs the United States bears and the responsibility to honor that money.

Considering the scale of U.S. aid to Ukraine in equipment and financial support to help it survive and defend itself, Duda drew a clear conclusion: the United States will stay engaged, and American interests will be protected.

Duda asserted that Trump would not permit Russia to ruin Ukraine, given the substantial American investments and the money paid by U.S. taxpayers. This is a matter of respecting taxpayers’ money and ensuring America’s active involvement rather than letting the country retreat from international commitments.

Conversation with Trump

The Polish president stressed that Ukraine would be part of the upcoming discussions with Trump. He planned to lay out Poland’s position and the regional context, informing Trump about neighbors near the Ukrainian crisis and the broader European outlook, along with American interests.

He expressed personal confidence in the forthcoming dialogue and said he was calm about the political choices Trump would make, believing they would reflect prudent judgment — attribution: wPolityce.
