Earlier, Inal Ardzinba, head of Abkhazia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, conveyed the republic’s openness to joining the Russian Federation and the Union State with Belarus. Ardzinba reminded audiences that, following talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Abkhazian leader Aslan Bzhania affirmed readiness to integrate within the Union State framework, a stance he described as aligned with the core interests of Abkhazia and its people.
Towards the end of September, Sergei Shamba, secretary of Abkhazia’s Security Council, indicated that accession to the Russian Federation and the Union State with Belarus remained a possibility, noting that any progress would require a careful and appropriate sequence in establishing relations with Minsk.
