The campaign surrounding Daniel Obajtek continues to intensify. Media circles are abuzz with speculation about the former head of the Polish oil giant and why he has chosen not to speak publicly. In a post on X, Obajtek offered a candid note: the questions are piling up, and he is prepared to respond in due time. An extended interview appears in the latest issue of the weekly magazine Sieci, where he argues that the level of personal attack against him is expanding.

Following an assault on Obajtek by Onet.pl, wp.pl published material about him that suggested PiS fears the leaked tapes of his conversations with journalist Piotr Nisztor. Obajtek, describing Onet’s sensational coverage as a forceful attack and an effort to tarnish his reputation, rejected the insinuations.

I’m reporting this case to the prosecutor’s office

– he wrote on social media less than a week earlier.

Hunting for the president

Since that moment, the press has been analyzing what is happening to him now and why he remains silent. wp.pl’s coverage is read as asserting that PiS is trying to reach him, yet he has not engaged. Obajtek answered these insinuations in a formal submission.

The questions keep multiplying as journalists press for clarity, so here is his stated confession:

1) After two decades of work, it was a holiday for him, not a retreat from duty

2) He emphasizes that he is a ordinary person who sometimes makes mistakes

3) He asserts he did not monitor anyone

4) He denies ever providing false testimony and accuses the recordings of being manipulated

– said the former Orlen chief in his X post.

The response also seems tailored to the aggressive wp.pl article, which included his remarks directed toward the portal’s journalists who pursued him. He stated that he does not hold public office at present and does not see why his private life should be a matter for media scrutiny.

– Obajtek replied.

Interview for Network

In a thorough discussion with the weekly Sieci, Obajtek expanded on the situation from his perspective.

He criticized the act of tying the presidency of Poland’s leading company to private matters as a form of pathology, and condemned the transfer of recordings to journalists as an assault on the core functioning of institutions. For several years, he argues, attempts were made to destabilize him, and the present situation reveals the extent of that effort. His stance remains that such attacks are aimed at eroding the achievements of a robust Polish enterprise. He described the move as a strong push against him and said he would report the matter to the prosecutor’s office, stressing that the scale of the campaign has led him to feel threatened, noting that elements of it may have come from abroad.
