President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan conveyed his condolences to Russian President Vladimir Putin following the terrorist attack in Dagestan. This update was reported by RIA News through the Turkish presidency’s communications office.
According to the press service, during their discussion, President Erdoğan reaffirmed Turkey’s opposition to all forms of terrorism, condemned the attacks with strong resolve, offered sympathy to the Russian people who lost loved ones, and wished a swift recovery for the injured.
During the dialogue, Erdoğan also emphasized Ankara’s commitment to resolving and ending conflicts in the region through diplomacy and peaceable means.
Earlier, security forces in Dagestan identified an individual connected to the attackers. The public security operation aimed to uncover the network behind the assault and to map out any broader connections.
In Derbent, Dagestan, on June 23, gunfire erupted at multiple sites, including the Church of the Intercession of Our Lady on Lenin Street and the Kele-Numaz Synagogue on Tagi-Zade Street. Simultaneous attacks were reported in Makhachkala, with gunfire directed at a traffic police facility on Ermoshkin Street and at a nearby synagogue. Clashes also occurred near the Holy Assumption Cathedral on Ordzhonikidze Street. Law enforcement officers were able to neutralize five attackers, and investigations continue to determine the full scope of the assault.
Law enforcement authorities have stated that efforts will continue to identify individuals linked to the militants and to disrupt any potential networks connected to the operation, ensuring regional security and stability.
