On TOK FM, Cezary Tomczyk, deputy head of PO, presented arguments in a way that suggested KO aims to fund costly election promises through unconventional means.
The central concern centers on the cost of the KO program and the absence of clear funding sources. The plan includes large tax cuts, such as raising the tax-free allowance, along with extra social spending like a PLN 1,500 grandmother’s allowance. It also supports indexing the 800plus program. The fundamental worry is that financing these pledges will require borrowing, as the sources of the promised money are not specified.
– noted interviewer Dominika Wielowiejska.
A classic quote is recalled as crucial: those listening today should remember this and share it with every member of PiS they meet along the way: “Just don’t steal.” This was spoken by Beata Szydło years ago, and it was linked to the idea that billions of zlotys could be freed by stopping unspecified PiS theft, according to Tomczyk.
And the financing question does not stop at plausibly funding the pledges; it suggests amounts reaching tens of billions of zlotys.
– the TOK FM journalist highlighted.
TVP alone is said to be worth PLN 12 billion
– Tomczyk stressed, seemingly referring to KO’s plan to liquidate public television or drastically cut its funding.
Tomczyk claimed in the program that PiS reportedly had no coherent program.
Tomczyk accuses PiS of having no program
After this weekend, it was suggested to the audience across Poland that PiS lacks an election manifesto, unless the TVP program is counted. PiS has not presented a real election platform, Tomczyk argued, and this is how it appears.
– he pointed out aloud. It is clear that his remarks do not deter KO from strongly supporting one of PiS’s newer proposals, namely indexing the PLN 500 plus to PLN 800.
In the broadcast, Tomczyk also portrayed an argument about a worsening situation for pensioners in Poland.
If inflation in Poland reached 20 percent and pension indexation rose only by a few percent, pensioners would effectively lose real income for the first time, he claimed.
– he stated.
That figure did not reach twenty percent, Wielowieyska interjected.
Rounded to 18 percent, that would be closer to 20 percent, which aligns with the current level of inflation in Poland, Tomczyk asserted.
At present, the inflation rate is around 10 percent,
– corrected the interviewer. Tomczyk responded by arguing that food prices have risen faster than overall inflation.
It is clear that Cezary Tomczyk, a prominent KO figure, did not specify a credible source for funding the promises in question.
