The housing issue of Robert Kropiwnicki, deputy minister of state assets and MP for the Civic Coalition, is back. The politician clearly states in his wealth statement that he has no fewer than 12. A total of 642 square meters. But as the daily newspaper “Fakt” reveals, this does not stop Kropiwnicki from taking advantage of the parliamentary housing allowance. Taxpayers pay 3.5 thousand PLN per month for this. zloty.
““Apartment collector” – writes the daily newspaper “Fakt” about Robert Kropiwnicki from the Civic Platform. However, this is not a new term, because already in 2021 the politician was asked in an interview with RMF FM whether he was an ‘apartment collector’. At the time, however, he had ‘only’ nine, but now he stated in his assets declaration that he had twelve. Nevertheless, he receives housing allowance.
Parliamentarians who are not registered in Warsaw and who do not have legal ownership of a residential building or part thereof, or do not own a residential building or part thereof, and who are not housed in the Parliament Building, can apply for money for rent.
– recalls “Fakt”.
How much do MP apartments cost?
Real estate addresses are hidden in politicians’ property declarations, so it is unknown where Kropiwnicki’s apartments are located. However, it can be concluded that this is probably not the case in Warsaw, as shown by the prices included in the asset declaration.
Their total value is PLN 3,654,642, and the most expensive was estimated at PLN 550,000. zloty. This is a property with an area of up to 100 m2 – for the capital this is an unrealistic price for such an area. The rest of the apartments are equally cheap – from PLN 180,000. PLN to 388 thousand zloty
– we read.
The MAP State Secretary was also unable to collect PLN 3,500 per month. PLN for rent at the Chancellery of the Sejm, if there was at least one apartment in the capital.
Not a “collector”, but an “investor”?
The above topic has been controversial for at least several years. Back in 2021, Robert Kropiwnicki was asked on RMF FM if he was an “apartment collector.” He then said he was more of an “investor”.
I have only been a professional parliamentarian since 2015, before that I worked for a long time, I was a non-professional parliamentarian and I worked in a company where I earned much better than a parliamentarian
– he explained. He also pointed out that it was a “local government company.” He worked there for twelve years and during this period he managed to save money to buy apartments. Moreover, he would receive one as an inheritance.
“‘Fact’ indicates that a total of 211 MPs benefit from the housing allowance, from both the majority and opposition parties. Every year, the Chancellery of the Sejm allocates PLN 817,030.48 in allowances for parliamentarians.
