Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said that the country is coping with the consequences of the disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant almost without the help of other states. His words are quoted by the publication “Saturation. Belarus today”.
In his opinion, Belarus coped with the consequences of the “universal man-made disaster” with its own hands and with its own mind, combining science and practice, worldly wisdom and knowledge.
The Belarusian leader noted that six large-scale state programs were implemented to eliminate the consequences of the Chernobyl accident for more than 30 years, within the framework of which more than $ 23 billion of budget funds and approximately the same amount of extra-budgetary funds were allocated. .
Lukashenko noted that the country’s authorities did the right thing by deciding to revive the Chernobyl areas. For this purpose, scientists stepped in and found ways to obtain pure products from these lands by conducting experiments.
As a result of the disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant on April 26, 1986, 23% of Belarusian territory was exposed to radioactive contamination. Radioactive pollution affected the entire country; Gomel, Mogilev and Brest regions were most damaged.
