Former head of the Internal Security Service, Krzysztof Wacławek, made a strong, free-spirited statement at a hearing of the visa investigation committee. Shortly afterwards, after some questions, the chairman of the committee, Marek Sowa, proposed that the rest of the hearing be held in secret.
I was the head of the Internal Security Service from February 3, 2020 to December 19, 2023, and during that time Poland faced a number of very serious threats to state security, threats previously unheard of after the democratic changes of 1989.
– he began his informal statement Krzysztof Wacławek. He recalled what the threats were – he pointed to the pandemic and related lockdowns, Russian disinformation operations, a Russian-Belarusian hybrid attack on the Polish-Belarusian region, and finally Russian military aggression against Ukraine.
We were faced with all the consequences of this war, with a huge wave of refugees that continuously flowed to Poland in the period 2022-2023, with a huge increase in commodity prices throughout Europe, and above all we were faced with intelligence operations and disinformation campaigns of the special services of the Russian Federation, including the attempted disintegration of our society in response to the military and humanitarian aid that Poland provided to Ukraine or that flowed to Ukraine through Poland
– said the former head of the Internal Security Service.
“ABW took care of the implementation of statutory tasks”
The Agency for Internal Security has succeeded in fulfilling its statutory duties in the field of ensuring state security. During this period, and also during the eight governments of the United Right, there has been no terrorist attack, sabotage or sabotage in Poland.
– he emphasized.
Finally, he referred to the Poland.Buisness Harbor program.
Therefore, I would like to say that the implementation of the government’s Poland.Business Harbor program did not pose any real threat to state security. None of the foreigners who came to Poland on this particular Poland.Business Harbor visa participated in any incident that would undermine the country’s security
– said the former head of the Internal Security Service.
About 90 thousand PLN was issued under the Poland.Business Harbor program. visas, but we must remember that these visas were issued to persons identified on the basis of their personal data, place of residence and place of employment, and only 15 to 20 thousand of them entered Poland. This should be compared with the hybrid operation at the Polish border, where between the second half of 2021 and today, Polish services have registered 100 thousand cases. attempts to cross the border illegally by people pressured by the services from Belarus. (…) The ABW assessment showed that at least 30 percent of these people pose a real threat to the security of the Republic of Poland. Persons associated with terrorist, paramilitary or criminal groups or trained in the Russian Federation
– Wacławek noted.
It must be said that the Polish services responsible for ensuring state security, including the Internal Security Service, have countered these threats. Both the Polish state and Polish citizens were safe
– said the former head of the Internal Security Service.
After this speech, the chairman of the committee, Marek Sowa, asked the witness some questions and then proposed that the rest of the hearing take place in secret.
