The left-wing ‘Krytyka Polityczna’ decided to focus on the image of the left among Poles. It turned out that the group’s representatives in the political race do not drive a Formula 1 car.
In an interview with “Krytyka Polityczna”, Dr. Bartosz Rydliński, co-founder of the Center. Ignacy Daszyński explained that the left enjoys the greatest popularity “among the better educated and prosperous people”. In the case of Poles from villages and small towns, defined by the portal as the “popular class”, the opinion is completely different:
This group is openly hostile to the left and is often associated with, as mentioned, ‘sexualization of children’.
The situation of the left among ordinary Poles from small towns is not rosy. Their automobile association is pink, however:
We conducted research using the ‘Chinese portrait method’, where we asked focus group participants what the left was associated with and asked them to describe what it would look like if it were a car. There were responses that it would be a ‘pink melex with water cannons’ – we have pink as an LGBT colour, melex because of ecology and water cannons as a symbol of left-wing authoritarianism. As I understand it, the left would shoot them at Poles fighting for sovereignty.
Without enthusiasm even in larger cities
Less critical of the left is – as ‘Krytyka Polityczna’ puts it – ‘The working class from the larger cities:
She often does not have her own apartment and has problems with the stability of her job, but at the same time she watches TVN24, listens to Onet podcasts and gets news from the political mainstream.
But even according to this group, the left would not even be a middle-class car.
This part of the working class is not as hostile to the left as the previous group, but is criticized for its post-communist origins. When asked what kind of car the left wing would choose, respondents from this group choose a Trabant or a Polonez
– says Rydlinski.
If the choice were made at a used car dealer, the left might not be very popular. However, when it comes to making choices at the ballot box, it is not the best, as was shown in this year’s European Parliament elections, where the left received only 6.3 percent support.
