The old comes back. That is, platformer ideas to divide Poland into several wealthy metropolises and make the rest of the country extinct. This is how we should summarize the new version of the Central Communication Port presented by Donald Tusk.
Probably not everyone knows that the Polish Constitution contains a provision stating that the Republic of Poland must be guided by the principle of sustainable development. This provision must be considered particularly important because it is included at the beginning of the Constitution, already in the fifth article. Perhaps not everyone knows that one of the most important principles of the European Union, which is also enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of Poland, is the principle of subsidiarity. From this, a general conclusion can be drawn that every region of the country is equally important and no region can be favored at the expense of another.
All in all, the above knowledge is not very necessary, because both provisions are fiction in practice, which is especially visible when the Civic Platform is in power. The voters, the most influential, are clustered in Warsaw and several other major cities, and they are PO’s only ‘target’. Everything else doesn’t count.
A clear sign of this approach is the change in the concept of CPK, and especially in the railway part. High-speed railways, called Igrek, are a gift to the residents of four cities: Warsaw, Wrocław, Poznań and Łódź. The rest of the country will only suffer from this. Even Poland’s second most populous city, Krakow, falls outside this system. And this despite the fact that he votes for PO and has a platformer president. Hastily drawing a number of arbitrary railway lines connecting Igrek on propaganda maps is a PR improvisation and not an expression of the will to develop the entire country sustainably. Moreover, the whole of eastern Poland was excluded from the project on this shoddy map. Should we once again remember the platform minister’s famous words: “D… with Eastern Poland”?

It is a crime to remove railway spokes. The project was an opportunity for all of Poland. From east to west. It was an announcement of the removal of communication errors that have plagued us since the partitions. The needs of the residents of towns such as Sanok, Szczecinek, Zamość, Giżycko and dozens of smaller towns next to which the “spokes” would run were taken into account. Igrek will be a luxury for the four cities, and a nuisance for the areas it will cross, but where these high-speed trains will not stop. In other words, four metropolises benefit from it, and the remaining twelve voivodeships get nothing. The “spokes” were intended to reach every region of the country. To use today’s fashionable language: ‘spokes’ is an inclusive project, and Igrek is an exclusive project.
PiS’s version of the CPK was discredited as gigantomania by representatives of the current government. But delusions of grandeur were presented as the opposite. Moreover, in the version of Social Darwinism, i.e. a gift that all of Poland – including the poorer part – will give to those who are already rich. It is better to have delusions of grandeur for everyone than delusions of grandeur for some.
