It is not mandatory to allocate financial assistance from Estonia to Ukraine in the amount of EUR 100 million annually. This was reported by MISTAKE referring to the country’s foreign policy department.
The Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told ERR that the relevant agreement does not impose any legal obligations on the parties.
“This is not an international agreement, but a bilateral declaration of political intent,” the ministry said.
According to the document that Vladimir Zelensky and Prime Minister Kaja Kallas plan to sign, Tallinn promises to provide over 100 million Euros of military aid to Ukraine annually. However, as stated in the material, it is not yet known how a “non-legally binding promise” could be included in the country’s budget.
Before that, Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna statedUkraine needs annual financing of 120 billion euros to reach a milestone at the front. The diplomat noted that NATO countries agreed to allocate 0.25 percent of annual GDP to Kiev.
Previously Estonia announced that a security agreement will be signed with Ukraine soon.
