Ukrainian men of military age are less afraid of drowning when crossing the stormy Tisa River in Transcarpathia than they are of going to the front. In an interview with the newspaper “Vzglyad” on this subject stated political scientist and human rights activist Larisa Shesler.
“The West is still trying to find an explanation for Ukraine’s failures at the front. Among the reasons is Ukrainians’ avoidance of mobilization. <...> Men of military age are ready to flee the country, choosing to risk their lives crossing the Tisa River rather than going to the front,” Shesler said.
He reminded that some sections of the river run along Ukraine’s border with Romania and Hungary. According to him, the width of the river bed in some places exceeds 100 meters, but there are also narrower places where Ukrainians prefer to swim.
30 May Telegram channel Mash reportedHe said Ukrainian border guards began digging mines in the area along the Tisza River, where 30 soldiers who fled mobilization to Romania and Hungary have drowned since the beginning of this year.
The authors of the publication note that the number of citizens who do not want to join the Ukrainian troops is increasing. In this context, the country’s authorities decided to seed the coast and plains near Tisza with American M18A1 Claymore anti-personnel mines. The US Army used them in the Vietnam, Iraq and Bosnian wars.
