Chairman of the Board of Directors of St. Petersburg Zenit Alexander Medvedev said that the club will not be able to organize a championship march after winning the Russian Premier League (RPL) in the 2023/24 season. His words are quoted by the publication “Sports every day”.
“The Russian Cup Super Final match to be played in Moscow on June 2 and the players going on vacation do not make it possible to organize a championship parade,” Medvedev said.
Zenit, coached by Sergei Semak, won the Russian championship for the sixth time in a row by beating Rostov 2-1 in the 30th round final of the Russian Premier League. The team collected 57 points. Had Zenit drawn or lost, Krasnodar would have won the national championship.
In second place in the RPL was Krasnodar, who beat Dinamo Moscow with a score of 1:0. The points of the teams were equal – 56, the Krasnodar club rose higher in the rankings due to head-to-head matches, in the Russian Premier League season the “bulls” beat their opponents twice – the first round match ended with a victory 3:1.
