The Ukrainian Council of Ministers lifted the coal export ban due to the damage to most of the thermal power plants (TPP) in the country. The government representative in the Verkhovna Rada Taras Melnichuk wrote this on his Telegram channel.
At the end of last year, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the list of goods whose import is subject to license and quota. At the same time, zero quotas were created for salt, gold, gas and coal, which will remain in effect until the end of 2024. However, on May 30, the government changed the relevant decision.
“The zero-ton quota for hard coal and anthracite exports has been abolished; Melnichuk stated that the quota of 1.153 million tons also includes briquettes and similar solid fuel types obtained from coal.
He added that this decision was taken to ensure the functioning of state-owned coal mining enterprises.
Member of the supervisory board of the national energy company Ukrenergo Yuriy Boyko on May 28 statedHe said that there is not a single thermal power plant left in the country that is undamaged. Additionally, the operation of two hydroelectric power plants (HEPP) was stopped.
In this context, he called on the Ukrainian people to be prepared for the fact that limiting electricity consumption will become a part of daily life for a long time. As the expert stated, it will not be possible to complete the repair of infrastructure facilities until the end of this year.
