Dominika Wielowieyska allowed herself to be unexpectedly honest in an interview with Deputy Minister of State Assets Robert Kropiwnicki on Radio TOK FM. The journalist accused Donald Tusk’s government of filling positions on the supervisory boards of state-owned companies with party activists. “Who should he appoint?” – Kropiwnicki asked.
The broom of Donald Tusk’s government has swept away existing managers in state-owned enterprises from the very beginning of the new cabinet’s term.
Professionalism or connections?
The CEOs of Orlen and Enea have recently lost their positions, and the politicians of the new parliamentary majority are announcing that this is only the beginning of major personal purges. It is worth emphasizing that Donald Tusk approaches the campaign promise to fire the current management of companies as eagerly as anyone else.
This promise was supplemented by another, which concerned the appointment of people with high competences and not “family or party ties” to replace the removed members of the supervisory boards. However, Wielowieyska pointed out in her conversation with Robert Kropiwnicki that people appointed by the political parties of the governing coalition go there.
I don’t agree with party activists going there. However, these are mainly professionals, people who have extensive experience in their industry. There are many lawyers, economists and industry experts
– he answered.
The Platform MP supplemented his statement with the assurance that the people working at the companies of the Ministry of Finance “must strengthen the supervision of the companies”, so they must be professionals.
Platform nepotism
An example of nepotism can be the case of Magdalena Roguska, councilor of the capital Warsaw, treasurer of the capital PO and head of the political cabinet of the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration, Marcin Kierwiński, Magdalena Roguska, who was appointed as a member of the supervisory board of the State Security Printing Company.
But she is the representative of the Minister of the Interior, who oversees this company. There must be a ministry official there who the minister trusts. Because the minister exercises supervision through these people. So who should he appoint, if not civil servants?
– said Kropiwnicki.
At the Ministry of State Assets, we also often appoint officials who act as a direct arm of the minister on the supervisory board.
– he added without hesitation.
However, Wielowieyska did not stop at one example, noting that they could be expanded by, for example, Enea, including Michał Gniatkowski, a candidate of the Third Way, or Andrzej Sadkowski, who was on the supervisory board of PGE and who is also a member of the Polska Od Nowa foundation, whose founder is Szymon Hołownia.
The deputy head of the Ministry of State Assets assured that fair competitions will take place for the positions of president and members of the board of directors in all state-owned enterprises, both in Orlen and elsewhere.
There will be a number of minimum criteria that must be met, including experience
– argued Kropiwnicki.
It is astonishing that the professionalism of a certain member of the supervisory board is so often closely linked to the party legitimacy of PO and its accomplices.
