The leader of Polska 2050, Szymon Hołownia, after a wave of media coverage suggesting that associates of his party work for ministries, announced a plan to bar any Polska 2050 member from serving on supervisory boards. Michał Gniatkowski, a Poznań lawyer and activist within Poland 2050, who recently joined the supervisory board of Enea SA, did not share this view. In a public statement, he said he would be willing to resign his party membership to keep his board seat.

A ban on appointing party workers to boards and works councils. A ban on placing MPs and local government officials on the boards of directors and company boards. A ban on funding parties by members of management and works councils. The changes should begin with the party itself. No person employed by or aligned with Poland 2050 will be nominated for supervisory boards. If any such people exist today, they will step down.

– announced Szymon Hołownia. Yet he does not plan to resign from his post on the Supervisory Board of Enea SA. Michał Gniatkowski stated that he is ready to leave Poland 2050 to maintain his current position.

I am closely watching the debate over appointments to SSP supervisory boards. I do not fully understand why someone who is an expert trusted by the governing coalition, a candidate for the Supervisory Board, and a person with social trust in a given moment cannot simultaneously be a candidate in local elections. I also question why three years of social activity in the name of the rule of law should place a lawyer in a worse position than someone who avoided such activities.

– wrote Michał Gniatkowski.

I view my recent appointment by the new coalition government as a member of the Supervisory Board of Enea SA as a serious commitment to improving the governance of SSPs. In its work, the Supervisory Board has already begun the process of selecting a new Board of Directors. The process should be swift, professional, and steady, and it may set new benchmarks for future governance standards.

– he noted.

“I will stop party activities with immediate effect.”

I hope that Poland 2050, along with other ruling coalition parties, will bring detailed proposals for how SSP authorities will be elected in the near term. If needed, he can suspend or renounce party membership at any time. For clarity, he will voluntarily suspend party activities right away and will inform his party circle today. He will refrain from voting in the Regional Council for now. He is a legal advisor by trade, but he remains a party member.

– he stressed.

P.S. He asked Poznań media reporters and local residents who inquire about his mayoral candidacy for Poznań to understand that he cannot provide any specific statements on this matter for obvious reasons.

– he added.

As this unfolds, Szymon Hołownia’s decision has stirred mixed reactions across Poland 2050.
