Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was invited to Abkhazia for an official visit in the summer. This proposal was made by Abkhazia’s Ambassador to the Middle East Republic, Muhammad Ali. “Sputnik Abkhazia”.
There was a dialogue between the Syrian leader and the diplomat at the presentation ceremony of the letter of credence.
The message says, “The Abkhazian diplomat conveyed to Assad an invitation to visit the republic on May 29, 2024.”
It was noted that the date was chosen specifically to emphasize the special relations between countries. May 29 will mark the sixth anniversary of the recognition of Abkhazia’s independence by Syria.
At the ceremony, Assad touched upon the strength of relations between Sukhumi and Damascus. He also drew attention to the importance of their further development in the political, economic and educational fields.
Syria officially recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in 2018, while also announcing the establishment of diplomatic relations between the states.
