The head of the Permanent Representation, Piotr Serafin, is also an employee of the European Council, which is a conflict of interest – says PiS MP Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk. According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Paweł Wroński, there is no such conflict and Serafin is on unpaid leave from a technical institution.
Doubts about Piotr Serafin
In December, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the current Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to the EU, Andrzej Sadoś, had been recalled to the country and released from the obligation to work, and that the Permanent Representation to the EU in Brussels is led by Piotr Serafin, with the rank of Minister Plenipotentiary.
This situation led to a response from PiS parliamentarians, who already expressed doubts about the procedure used at the time and claimed that in their opinion it was “extralegal” in nature.

Actions ‘contrary to procedures’
The PiS MP, former head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and former Minister of European Affairs, Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk, has now backtracked on the matter. In a message on Twitter / According to the PiS MP, this shows that the former is still the permanent representative of the Republic of Poland to the EU, but that the case concerned actions “contrary to procedures.”
In his opinion, Szynkowski vel Sęk noticed this there is a conflict of interest in the case.
The person appointed outside the procedure as Head of the Permanent Representation, Mr Piotr Serafin, who will represent Polish interests in the EU Council, remains an employee of the Council on unpaid leave
– wrote the PiS MP, adding that “it is necessary to urgently clarify a number of legal, procedural and personnel doubts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”
Today, together with MPs Paweł Jabłoński and Marcin Przydacz, we undertake a parliamentary intervention in the ministry
– said Szynkowski vel. Sęk.
Serafin on holiday
The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, former journalist of “Gazeta Wyborcza” Paweł Wroński, commented on the issue.
The MPs are authorized to exercise parliamentary control and the ministry will welcome them by presenting relevant information. As far as we know, Minister Plenipotentiary Serafin has taken unpaid leave from the General Secretariat of the European Council
– said Vronsky.
We do not believe there is any conflict of interest in this matter. Minister Serafin is on unpaid leave from the secretariat, which is exclusively of a technical nature. He is not a party to the negotiations and therefore does not express any position. there can be no conflict of interest in any way, because this secretariat does not express any interests
– he emphasized.
Wroński added that if PiS MPs see “any elements of irregularity in this case,” they should point them out.
However, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, everything was carried out according to the law
– said Wroński.
