Former Deputy Prime Minister Jacek Sasin received a summons to appear before the Sejm investigative committee on correspondence elections. “I will show up without any worries, because I have nothing on my conscience,” he said on the third program of Polish radio. He added that this commission was “an attempt to judge PiS politicians responsible for holding the elections, it was clearly pointless.” The hearing is scheduled for January 23.
Jacek Sasin for the Commission
A week before Donald Tusk’s government was sworn in, the ruling coalition voted to establish a parliamentary investigative committee. MPs for Law and Justice also voted in favor of its creation, saying they had nothing to hide and that the results of the committee’s work would destroy the anti-PiS coalition.
Conclusions of the Post-Election Commission? Gowin does not remember the offer to become Prime Minister. Buda: “There’s a cap!”
Former Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Gowin, who opposed holding postal elections, has already testified before the Commission. The next witness is Deputy Prime Minister Jacek Sasin, who will appear on January 23.
“I have a phone call. Yesterday I received such a request by email. On January 23, I have to appear before the postal election inquiry committee
– Sasin said on Radio Three.
When asked if he would show up, he replied that he would do so “willingly and without any worries, because he had nothing on his conscience.”
“I’ll come by without any worries. This committee, we have said this from the beginning, insofar as it was outlined by the ruling majority, i.e. as an attempt to judge PiS politicians responsible for conducting the elections, it clearly had no point
– said the Deputy Prime Minister.
The deadlines were set in the constitution
Referring to the decisions taken regarding the elections, he stressed that “everyone acted within the scope of their powers”.
According to the so-called Covid Act, the powers to make appropriate decisions were given to Poczta Polska, PWPW, but also to relevant ministers, including the Minister of State Assets, that is, me, but also the Minister of the Interior, these powers belonged to the prime minister. It was the Prime Minister who made these decisions within his powers, and not me, because I had no such powers
– noted the former Minister of State Assets.
As he added, “the constitution precisely defined the date on which the presidential elections in Poland will take place.”
Based on the constitution, the Marshal of the Sejm, Elżbieta Witek, announced the election date and there was no movement here, because there is no way to change the election date, the constitution would have to be changed, and as we know, there would did not have a majority on this
– he assessed.
The presidential elections were scheduled to take place on May 10, 2020, during the COVID-19 epidemic in Poland. The government intended that in this situation the vote would only take place by post. The Minister of State Assets, Jacek Sasin, was responsible for organizing the vote – in accordance with the law of April 6 of that year on special rules for holding presidential elections imposed in 2020. Ultimately, however, this law did not come into effect until May 9 and the elections were postponed. As he added, “the constitution precisely defined the date on which the presidential elections in Poland will take place.” “On the basis of the constitution, the chairman of the Sejm, Elżbieta Witek, announced the election date and there was no movement here, because there is no way to change the election date, the constitution should be changed, and as we know, There was not a majority,” he said.
