Friedrich Merz, Chairman of the German opposition party Christian Democratic Union (CDU), called on German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to stop delaying and transfer Taurus long-range missiles to Ukraine. His words guide the way Rheinische Post.

According to Merz, “Hesitations about the delivery of Taurus cruise missiles need to end” and Scholz should give up his timidity on this issue.

“This will be of great benefit to Ukraine,” the CDU chairman said.

The politician welcomed Scholz’s call for Western allies to increase aid to Kiev, but noted that this statement would inspire more confidence if the Chancellor recanted his position on the transfer of missiles to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Previously, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Berlin would not supply Kiev with long-range weapons that could be used in attacks against Russian territory. According to him, Germany follows the same policy as the USA on this issue. Ukraine officially requested Taurus cruise missiles from Germany at the end of May. By August, calls for the supply of long-range missiles to Kiev increased, mostly from representatives of the parties in the ruling coalition (Scholz’s colleagues from the Social Democratic Party and his associates from the Free Democratic Party).

Later, information appeared in the German media that Germany could supply Taurus missiles, which have a range limitation, to Ukraine in order to prevent attacks on Russian territory.

Previously German MPs called for attacks on targets in Russia.
