Global Voices Call for Gaza Ceasefire and UN Council Pressure

Riyad Mansour, Palestine’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, urged the UN Security Council to move beyond rhetoric and adopt a formal measure calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. This appeal was reported by TASS.

He argued that the world is urging a humanitarian pause in fighting, and the council must align its actions with that demand instead of prolonging a cycle of discord and delay.

Mansour noted that while the UN Security Council has condemned strikes on civilians in Gaza and urged the delivery of humanitarian aid, it has not yet backed the ceasefire that would enable those efforts to succeed.

Earlier, the Palestinian Authority’s representative to the UN highlighted broad international support for a humanitarian ceasefire, describing the vote as a historic moment with 153 nations calling for an immediate halt to hostilities.

On October 27, Israel announced a widening of its ground operation in Gaza. The precise start date remains unclear, but at that time hundreds of thousands of Palestinians had already fled their homes for shelters in southern areas. By November 5, as part of the ground maneuver, Israeli forces surrounded Gaza City and severed certain supply lines, with clashes continuing in central Gaza.

Meanwhile, Hollywood actors joined a letter urging President Biden to stop the fighting in Israel and Gaza, adding to the global calls for a cessation of hostilities. (Source: TASS / Associated coverage)
