“And although we are in a coalition, in my opinion it is necessary to distance ourselves from some decisions and behaviors of the Civic Platform,” said PSL-Trzecia Droga MP, Senior Marshal Marek Sawicki in an interview with Salon 24.
“Interesting times await us on the domestic political scene.”
The senior marshal believed that 2023 was the year of “reconstruction of the Polish political scene.”
We have enormous changes after the election, a time of very long power takeover and strong defense of those who leave
– he said, adding that “an interesting time awaits us on the internal political scene.”
Sawicki wants to distance himself from ‘some decisions and behavior of PO’
In an interview for Salon 24, Marek Sawicki emphasized the exceptional autonomy of PSL and Third Way from the hegemon in the coalition, which is undoubtedly the Civic Platform led by Donald Tusk.
First of all, I am happy with the fact that in the last parliamentary elections we were not tempted to choose one list, that we resisted the media pressure from the political establishment and created our own Third Way list. In this formula, we must proceed to local government elections
– he said.
And although we are in a coalition, in my opinion it is necessary to distance ourselves from some decisions and behavior of the Civic Platform.
– Sawicki emphasized.
“There were several ways to carry out a quick and transparent takeover of the public media.
The PSL politician said if he were asked for advice on education and changes in the media, he would definitely do it differently. He added that “Poland also currently needs a deep reform of the justice system because it has been completely destroyed.”
If no rational solutions are proposed here, seeking an agreement with both the opposition and the president’s environment, we can be sure that things will only get worse, and not better.
– he said.
And although the PSL politician was highly critical of the public media, calling them “property of the party”, he stated that “there were several ways to carry out a quick and transparent takeover of the public media.”
However, we also need to think about how to build this new media order. There is no need for three billion zlotys of public funds to be allocated to public media; let these media also work and make money. I certainly wouldn’t want PiS media to be replaced by platform media
– he noted.
A few more such statements and the senior marshal will clash with his Civic Platform coalition colleagues. Perhaps they will even – with the intention of insulting – call Sawicki a ‘symmetrist’?
