“The censorship is back in full force!” – wrote Rafał Bochenek, spokesman for Law and Justice, referring to the refusal of the Polish Press Agency to publish the statement of PiS President Jarosław Kaczyński. Justyna Wojteczek, deputy neo-president of PAP, Marek Błoński, commented on Bochenek’s words. The PiS leader’s statement was eventually published on the wPolityce.pl portal.
The return of censorship
On Saturday evening, Bochenek published a message on the X platform criticizing the neo-authorities of the Polish Press Agency – Marek Błoński and Justyna Wojteczek.
The censorship is back in full force! An unprecedented situation, illegal neo-authorities @PAPinformacje – Mr M. Błoński and Mr J. Wojteczek refuse to publish the statement of the leader of the largest opposition party, President Jarosław Kaczyński
– He wrote.
According to him, this is “further evidence that these political officials came to media institutions to silence society and cut off access to information. “Elect only those who are flattering to (Donald) Tusk and his team, so that citizens do not know the truth.” T
This clearly destroys the foundations of democracy, freedom of expression and media pluralism. That is why it is so important that we appear together on January 11, 2024. before the Sejm and protest together against the lawlessness and vulgar actions of this government. This is the only way we can stop them
– said the PiS politician.
PAP refuses Bochenek
Justyna Wojteczek commented on the PiS spokesperson’s post, emphasizing that “what is published on the website is the responsibility of an independent editorial team that does not succumb to pressure from any political power.”
She recalled that art. 2 of the Polish Press Agency Act states that PAP “shall not be under the legal, economic or other control of any ideological, political or economic group.”
We consider the pressure on journalists and editors of the Polish Press Agency to publish certain content unacceptable, contrary to the Press Act, the Polish Press Agency Act and common decency.
– Wojteczek noted.
I would like to inform you that I have rejected the proposed meeting with Mr Bochenek. It seems right to me that a journalist or editor arranges an interview with a politician, expert, artist, etc. However, such an interview should not be about the question of what should be published in the Polish Press Agency.
– she pointed out.
She stressed that she “will not allow any politician from any party to put this kind of pressure on journalists or editors of the Polish Press Agency.”
Wojteczek explained that “most of the proposed statements (of the PiS president – PAP) do not contain any new information.” As she added, the journalist was asked to “make these excerpts about possible assistance to ‘those attacked by the Tusk government’ more specific – to provide information about the specific offer of assistance, the criteria for its provision and the circle of potential recipients.” She added that when such details are presented, they will certainly be mentioned on the PAP website.
PiS President Jarosław Kaczyński responds to Tusk’s threats
In his speech, the PiS president said, among other things, that “anyone attacked by Tusk’s government can count on our support and assistance, including legal assistance, in case of repressive actions; in light of the events taking place before our eyes, the destruction of public institutions, their political appropriation and the restriction of access to information, we cannot give in. “Any person attacked by Tusk and his supporters can count on our support.”
