On Wednesday, MP Grzegorz Braun (Confederation) was dismissed by the Sejm from two parliamentary committees: the National Defense Commission and the European Affairs Committee. According to Michał Wawer (Confederation), these are “new PiS standards for governing the Sejm.”
Changes in the composition of parliamentary committees
At the request of the Sejm Presidium, a number of changes were made to the composition of the Sejm committees on Wednesday.
The MPs decided, among other things: on the dismissal of MP Grzegorz Braun from the National Defense Commission and the European Affairs Committee. 373 MPs voted in favor of changes in parliamentary committees, 14 were against and 16 abstained.
The Southern lawmaker tried to defend Braun
Before the vote, Confederation MP Michał Wawer came to the parliamentary podium.
There is a catalog of punishments that different state authorities can impose for behavior that that state authority does not like. The Sejm has fined Grzegorz Braun in the form of depriving him of part of his salary, the National Prosecution Service can apply to have his immunity lifted and the courts will be able to rule on this case. However, expulsion from parliamentary committees is not on the list of punishments that can be applied
– Wawer emphasized.
He ruled that “the same logic is used here as in the elections for the Presidium of the Sejm, where the new Sejm majority grants itself the right to dictate to individual clubs who should sit on their behalf, their representation, in particular committees, who will serve on the presidency.” “.
Colleagues from PiS, in the case of Elżbieta Witek, although we really have many reservations about Mrs. Witek from the time she was Marshal, we voted in favor of her election to the Presidium. And I suggest that if you want to be consistent, you should do exactly the same thing now when you vote for MP Braun
– Wawer appealed.
Referring to the ruling coalition’s MPs, he said:
What you are doing, criminal exclusion from Sejm committees, preventing the implementation of a parliamentary mandate, are again PiS norms for governing the Sejm.
Hanukkah scandal
On December 12, MP Braun used a powder fire extinguisher to extinguish the Hanukkah candles that were lit during the ceremony in the Sejm. He then appeared on the Sejm stage as the meeting was chaired by Konfederacja Deputy Marshal Krzysztof Bosak. The meeting was taken over by Marshal Szymon Hołownia, who excluded Braun from the meeting and announced that, among other things, he would file a request against him with the prosecutor’s office. for disrupting a religious ceremony. Hołownia also announced that the Presidium of the Sejm punished Braun with deprivation of half his salary for three months and the full allowance for half a year.
The Left Club filed a motion to dismiss Krzysztof Bosak from the position of deputy chairman of the Sejm, arguing that it allowed Braun to speak after the incident and enabled him to deliver an anti-Semitic speech. The Left pointed out that Deputy Marshal Bosak’s insufficient response to Braun’s words forced Marshal Hołownia to take over the proceedings.
Grzegorz Braun has also been suspended as a member of the Confederation Club and is not allowed to speak from the parliamentary podium. Some politicians view the Confederation’s actions as insufficient and demand Braun’s expulsion from the Confederation Club.
Braun: “Hanukkah United Front”
MP Braun commented on the issue on Platform X. In his typical style…
The “United Hanukkah Front” in @KancelariaSejmu is active MPs of the grand coalition on the divisions in the Sejm of the Republic of Poland: @Platforma_org, @pisorgpl, @nowePSL, @PL_2050, just voted together to expel me closure of the National Defense Committee and the Eurokolkhoz Committee
