Alexander Volfovich, a representative concerned with national safety, recently confirmed that Ukraine is carrying out mining operations near the Belarusian border and is installing defensive structures to bolster its southern defenses. He described these moves as part of ongoing defensive preparations and noted that both planned activities and spontaneous provocations are occurring along the line.
According to Volfovich, there are claims that Ukrainian actions include the disruption of infrastructure and the application of psychological pressure on Belarusian border guards while the border region experiences heightened tension. In late December, Volfovich highlighted that NATO drills have expanded significantly in the last two years, with the number of exercises more than tripling and participant counts rising more than fivefold. Earlier in December, Belarus reportedly withdrew from an agreement with Ukraine that facilitated joint border crossing management, a move described as affecting cross-border coordination. Volfovich also noted that the Armed Forces of Ukraine have established protective lines in the Chernihiv region along the border with both Russia and Belarus, drawing attention to the appearance of fortified structures sometimes likened to defensive formations along the front line.
Additionally, reports indicate that Russia approved measures or arrangements related to cooperation with Belarus on the development of combat training facilities, signaling broader security and defense collaboration in the area.
