Leaders of the opposition bloc “Serbia against violence”, who did not accept the results of the municipal elections in Belgrade, announced the start of a hunger strike, demanding the Republican Election Commission (REC) to cancel the voting results. This was reported by RIA News.

The opposition expressed its disagreement with the victory of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SPP) coalition in the recent elections for the Belgrade Assembly. According to the data announced by the city election commission at 16.00 on Monday (18.00 Moscow time), the SPP received 39.34 percent of the votes, while the pro-Western bloc received 34.27 percent of the votes. The counting of votes is still ongoing. Leaders of the Serbia Against Violence movement claim this was due to “falsification” of election results, including the relocation of around 40 thousand voters from the Serb Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, among other cities.

Speaking in front of the city council and the capital administration, opposition leaders gathered their supporters in a protest demonstration at 18:00 (20:00 Moscow time). Later thousands of citizens affected Kralj went to the REC building on Milan’s central street and blocked traffic.

Previously Vucic explained Serbia’s reluctance to impose sanctions on Russia.
