Years have passed and Donald Tusk has changed nothing. Once again he has only one thing to say: “PiS”, “PiS”, “PiS”, with that characteristic long “S” at the end, which is supposed to suggest that it’s about something bad. About the worst. He lists unprecedented crimes, concerns about the construction of a museum of the Christian National Movement, the company between Orlen and Sołowow, the lease of a piece of port in Gdańsk and the appointment of Minister Soboń to the board of directors of the National Bank of Poland. He announces cooperation with the Supreme Court of Audit, which, although it has many advantages, no longer has the qualities of independence and objectivity.
Tusk predicts that when he “rolls away the stone”, we will see many “worm situations”.. And again, in each case he adds: “on the one hand this”, “on the other hand that”. We will solve everything, all we need is goodwill and our platform skills. We will even ensure the president’s safety. Polite questions from journalists allow us to weave a thread efficiently.
““I am not angry” – declared the former and future Prime Minister, adding: “Let’s forget Tusk’s anger.” PiS, which is showing an “aggressive attitude” and “suggesting various irregularities and misdeeds,” is another matter to attack the new government “from morning to night. For Tusk it is a ‘compliment’. He has looked into the windmill issue himself and “there is no secret”, it was prepared by PO, and there is “nothing mysterious” in it. Everything is “absolutely legible and transparent”. He himself, the Prime Minister, has “full confidence” in the honesty of MP Paulina Hennig-Kloska. He himself is also a guarantee that “nothing ambiguous will happen.” This is probably why the CBA is unnecessary and should be abolished. Tusk’s word is enough. And besides, the “legendary lobbyists” who are “lurking in wait for us” are harmless.
“Swift and decisive” actions are planned against public media. But beyond that, Tusk is a ‘walking compromiser’ and will happily cooperate with institutions controlled by his opponents. But “there will be no settlement against corruption or breaking the law.” Furthermore, President Glapiński is “not doing any favors”. Moments earlier he said that “Poland is waiting for the bad practices to end”, but apparently this does not concern him.
More experienced people have an impression déjà vu. It already existed, it tormented us for years, and then it seemed like it was going out of business once and for all. But it’s back. The most important question is: will this structure fly again? Will this particular mixture of faces, greps, pauses in the air, tricks, manipulations, quarter- and half-truths fool the Poles again?
We will know the full answer in a few months. One thing stands out: the new Tusk is astonishingly derivative. He is an actor with one role, already well defined. No freshness. And that will happen sooner than we think.
“You know me a little from the past, nothing has changed here” –
– said Tusk, and it is difficult to disagree with him.
