Gazeta Wyborcza had to respond in its own unique way to President Andrzej Duda’s decision to first entrust the formation of the 10th Sejm government to former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
The author of the text, editor Dominika Wielowiejska, already informs in the title of her spot for the President of the Republic of Poland that “Poland needs an efficient exchange of power: the budget must be adopted and the KPO must be unblocked. “Despite this, President Andrzej Duda chose party interests.”
“Duda does not want to be cursed by the PiS electorate.
Duda does not want to be cursed by the PiS electorate and, because of the good relations with the parent party, points to Morawiecki, because he wants to participate in the leadership game in this camp after the end of his term. Within a few days, however, Morawiecki can tell the president that he does not have a majority and resign. He would have avoided defeat in the confidence vote
— curses the current political situation Wielowiejska.
However, a more likely scenario assumes that PiS will delay the government appointment process as much as possible
– he adds, leaving no doubt for the readers of “Wyborcza” that (sic!) “after the loss of the vote of no confidence, the Sejm will take the initiative to form a government .”
But until then, PiS people in companies and state media will still receive a salary, hand out some extra money to their employees, and Mateusz Morawiecki will appoint the head of the Polish Financial Supervisory Authority.
– warns.
Coalition majority only after November 13
The editor of Wielowiejska also complains that the president does not know whether there is a parliamentary majority that can entrust the opposition, and not the party that won the elections and the largest grouping in the Sejm, with the mission of forming the government . However, she admits that “the proof that such a coalition majority (in the opposition) exists” will only be “the formation of a majority on November 13 and the election of the marshal.”
Finally, we learn about “the presidential palace is building good relations with PSL and Konfederacja, because it dreams of a PiS coalition with these parties” and about the motives for choosing the Senior Marshal from the ranks of PSL.
Duda sees this gesture as an investment for the future, because he wants to play future coalition partners against each other
– concludes Wielowiejska.
The Gazeta Wyborcza columnist’s speculations and phantasmagories about Andrzej Duda’s decision should be considered, at best, an expression of helplessness and anger. However, it is important that presidential decisions express fidelity to constitutional principles and deadlines. And “Wyborcza” never liked this.
