Disputes between opposition parties can wait, it is more urgent to deconstruct what is wrong with the past eight years and adopt a new foreign policy, former Prime Minister Włodzimierz Cimoszewicz said on RMF FM radio on Wednesday. He emphasized that negotiations never start with the most controversial issues.
When the former Prime Minister and former Speaker of the Sejm, currently Member of the European Parliament, was asked whether the coalition negotiations of the opposition parties would be long and difficult, or perhaps quick and efficient, he replied that he would inform the leaders of these parties encourage you to act quickly.
Variant “Abroad”.
There are a number of issues that may differ between the groups that form the coalition. There are some things I would avoid at the moment and postpone until later, because not everything is equally urgent. There is an urgent need to deconstruct several bad things of the past eight years and do desirable things, for example in the field of foreign policy. It is extremely important that a new government is formed and that the new Prime Minister comes to Brussels and other capitals of the world to show the new country, the new Poland, the new foreign policy.
– said Cimoszewicz.
He added that negotiations never start with the most controversial issues, “you have to look for reasonable compromises and put aside the most difficult things.” The MEP believed that opposition parties should avoid personal disputes because they question their sense of responsibility.
When asked whether the unblocking of KPO funds is only a matter of change of government in Poland, the former Prime Minister said that while the election results and the composition of the government will be very positively received by the EU Member States and the European Commission, ” For the record, these decisions will not be changed.”
Blocking these funds has legal and material reasons. If, under new circumstances, the body called the Constitutional Tribunal considers President Andrzej Duda’s request to change the law on the Supreme Court, this will pave the way for immediate changes and the transfer of money to Poland.
– added the politician.
Referring to opposition parties’ announcements that the PiS government would be held accountable, he stressed that independent courts should decide whether someone should be jailed.
If the opposition were to dismiss illegal actions, this would contribute to perpetuating the lack of the rule of law
– he noted.
New Sejm
Cimoszewicz also believed that the president should convene the Sejm of the new term as soon as possible. He noted that much depended on possible election protests. He also stressed that the president should entrust the mission of forming a government to the parliamentary majority, and not to the party that achieved the highest result in the elections.
Cimoszewicz described the left’s result, lower than four years ago, as a “victorious defeat.” According to him, left-wing leaders should think about the cause of the lower than expected result. In his opinion, some voters probably switched their votes to KO at the last minute so that he could take first place. He also believed that the left was not working enough in this area.
The National Electoral Commission announced the official results of the parliamentary elections on Tuesday. In the Sejm elections, PiS obtained 35.38 percent. votes, KO – 30.70 percent, Trzecia Droga – 14.40 percent, New Left – 8.61 percent, Confederation – 7.16 percent. PiS won 194 seats in the Sejm elections, KO – 157; Third way – 65; New Left – 26; Confederacy – 18.
Włodzimierz Cimoszewicz’s statements reflect a narrative typical of the entire opposition camp – regardless of the program, regardless of the differences, as long as you fight against PiS. Regardless of whether it is before or after the elections. This does not bode well for public life and Poland.
