According to American officials cited by the article’s authors, “key Iranian officials were unaware of Hamas’ impending attack.”
The report stated that US officials said that people normally knowledgeable about operations involving the Quds Force, a unit of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), were not aware of the attack. However, NYT writes that the investigation continues and evidence may emerge that Iran or other states were directly involved in the Hamas operation.
The publication claims that Iran has been supplying arms and support to Hamas for years, making Tehran largely complicit in the Palestinian organization’s attack on Israel.
