Poland is an area of strategic play on a European level; we have always been subject to synchronized Russo-German influences that blocked our strategic interests — PAP former Chief of Military Intelligence, Member of the Committee on Russian Influence, Brigadier General Andreas Kowalski, told me.
General Kowalski, in an interview with PAP, when asked how strong foreign influence can be in Poland, noted that there is no doubt that Poland has been an area of strategic play for decades or even hundreds of years. the European level played by two major countries: Russia and Germany.
These influences are built up through all generations. We are dealing with something that is terribly difficult for us as a country, because we are a state that has always been subject to synchronized German-Russian or Russian-German influences, if you will
– he said.
Difficulty of the situation
The former head of the SWW pointed out that the difficulty of this situation is that all foreign influences, not only Russian ones, must be taken into account, which is very difficult for many reasons. He added that defining German or Russian influences is “trivial in a sense” at the same time.
Anything that implements someone else’s raison d’être through Polish policy is the effect of a foreign power’s influence on the Polish state. Therefore, we can look for certain lines, paths of changes that have taken place in Poland in recent decades and ask ourselves which of these changes had a positive effect, affecting the growth of the country’s internal power and economic power, and what activities The scenarios actually served the growing importance of the German or Russian economy
he assessed.
General Kowalski stressed that from the perspective of the war in Ukraine, a very important problem is Russian influence, which – in his opinion – is “completely destructive for the Polish state”.
It is due to the fact that in war conditions the Russians must act in such a way that the Polish state will be completely blocked, they must lead to the paralysis of the Polish state.
– added.
At the same time, the former head of the SWW pointed out that one should not forget the continuous attempt to influence German policy towards Poland, which is related to German strategic concepts related to the development of the European Union.
Poland, as a country important in the EU in terms of economy and population, must somehow be subjected to German political changes, which will make us fit more into scenarios written in Berlin or Brussels than in Warsaw.
– he said.
Unbreakable influences
General Kowalski emphasized that the German and Russian influences are to some extent inseparable and should be seen as such. He added that these influences differ in quality and structural design, but in both cases they consist of blocking our strategic interests.
Regardless of the fact that these forms are different, regardless of the fact that we are certainly not dealing with such a degree of aggressiveness on the German side as on the Russian side, we must remember that Poland is constantly influenced by vectors of two forces: from the East and the West
– he said.
