According to Sebastian Kaleta, deputy justice minister, the fear of the referendum among opposition representatives stems from the fact that Donald Tusk and his entourage do not want to tell the truth about his plans to the Poles. The minister also drew attention to the reluctance of the EU elites towards Polish direct democracy.

The opposition is terrified of the referendum. They are afraid that the Poles will vote ‘no’. This is an intention test. Is someone in the election campaign telling the truth or lying before the election and planning to do something else after the election. The opposition does not want a referendum because it does not want to show the Poles the truth. In the meantime, they will tear down the wall – yes! Yes, they will raise the retirement age and yes – they will agree to the Migration Pact
– said Sebastian Kaleta in an interview with television wPolsce.pl.
Opposition politicians say it in secret, but it’s worth going back to one of Donald Tusk’s archival statements. It happened during the referendum, which was supposed to fire the mayor of Warsaw, Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz. What did Donald Tusk say then? “Not taking part in a referendum is also a vote.” That’s why they’re afraid to say they’d rather vote ‘yes’. They fear it because even their constituents fear illegal immigration. The majority of Poles do not want to raise the retirement age. The opposition itself has fallen into this trap. After all, they could say, ‘Okay, we’ll do a referendum’
– argued the Deputy Minister of Justice.
The European Union is also afraid of the Polish referendum. It will set a precedent. Direct democracy will undermine the illegal bureaucratic procedures invented in Brussels. In the EU they are afraid that the Poles will overturn the decision-making process in the European Union
– emphasized Sebastian Kaleta.
