In anticipation of joining NATO, Sweden handed over to the Turkish side only four of the 70 alleged suspects who could be linked to organizations identified as terrorists in Turkey. The newspaper writes about it New Dawn.
“After waiting for Turkey’s approval to join NATO, Sweden began to fulfill the 10 conditions that Ankara presented during the negotiation process. Sweden has recently tightened its anti-terrorism laws. A country that has changed its anti-terrorism law, the terrorist organization PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party – ed.) Organization – ed.) and leftist organizations, ”the newspaper writes.
According to the newspaper, steps taken by Sweden in this direction are insufficient. Since the start of negotiations, four people have been extradited to Turkey. One of them is Mahmut Tat, who is on trial for “membership of a terrorist organization” in Turkey. According to the news of Yeni Şafak, the other three criminals, Mehmet Kokusu were convicted of drug trafficking, and Okan Kale and Ömer Kamil Altın were convicted of fraud.
Sweden applied for NATO membership in 2022. Turkey, a member of the alliance, has set the conditions that Stockholm must meet for Ankara to ratify membership. As a result, Ankara promised to send Sweden’s application for approval to Parliament.
