Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the idea of removing entry visas for Georgian citizens was his own idea, but was surprised by Tbilisi’s reaction to this decision. He told this to the representatives of the All-Russian public organization “Business Russia”, he quotes TASS.
“I always try to distribute everything positive that happens to us among my colleagues but in this case it was really my decision and proposal,” he said.
The President also emphasized that Russia has taken and will continue to take steps towards Georgia.
May 10 Putin lifted the ban Canceled the visa regime from 15 May on direct flights to Tbilisi and for Georgian citizens visiting Russia for up to 90 days.
Meanwhile, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili described these decrees by Putin as “another provocation”.
Diplomatic relations between the two countries were cut by Tbilisi in 2008 after Russia recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
