Smart clothing customization is increasingly empowered by the industrial internet, delivering what could be described as an almost unlimited potential for design and production. This is illustrated by a leading smart clothing solution implemented by a manufacturing company in Zhejiang province, China.

The garment maker, headquartered in Shaoxing city, operates an online platform that offers buyers personalized services. Customers can craft their own designs with a few screen taps, using a tool that allows them to upload body measurements or simply capture a few photos for reference.

Powered by advanced algorithms and artificial intelligence, the platform analyzes uploaded images and captures precise garment requirements. Once the design is finalized, a comprehensive QR code is generated to guide every step of production, from material preparation and template creation to all subsequent manufacturing processes.

This innovative approach streamlines the traditional clothing customization workflow, making it more accessible and efficient. It reduces reliance on brick and mortar stores and enables customers to receive tailored clothing at their doorstep within about seven days.

Compared with conventional custom clothing design, the company reports production efficiency improvements of three to four times, with costs falling by nearly half due to the digitalized process and optimized operations.

A local textile factory in Xinchang City, Zhejiang, has completed its smart modernization phase.

The factory now uses a mobile app to monitor production in real time, achieving a significant boost in operational efficiency, with night shifts reassigned to higher priority tasks and overall equipment utilization rising from around 75 percent to over 95 percent.

To date, Zhejiang has established seven futuristic manufacturing facilities and fifty provincial internet industrial platforms within the textile sector, accelerating the broad transformation of the regional industry.

As one of China’s wealthiest provinces among the 31 provincial-level regions, Zhejiang’s prosperity stems largely from light industry. This reflects the province’s historical role as a trade and craft hub and its long-standing prominence in textile production dating back to the late 19th century, when it played a central part in regional trade networks.
