The Russian retail group X5, which operates the Pyaterochka, Perekrestok and Chizhik chains, will publicly thank professionals across the retail sector on Trade Workers Day, observed on July 22 this year. More than 40 digital banners with celebratory messages will be displayed in 11 of Russia’s largest cities, as announced by the company’s press service.

Dynamic thank-you videos will appear on major hubs in Moscow, Kazan, Krasnodar, Novosibirsk, Tyumen, Sochi and other cities. The clips carry messages such as “Galya, Marina, Angela, Stepa and all the cashiers for all cancellations,” “Thanks to the retail couriers for breakfast, lunch and dinner in bed,” and “Thanks to the retail drivers who rise early so we can enjoy fresh bread.”

The company notes that roughly 11.1 million people — about one in thirteen residents — are employed in the retail sector today.

Approximately 250 roles are represented within the X5 team, spanning sales, delivery and analytics to IT, media development and ESG. The majority of these positions, about 82 percent, are held by frontline retail workers.

Common roles include sales assistant-cashier, store manager, operations supervisor, baker, store manager and driver.

There are also specialized retail positions such as barista, pizzeria staff, ecologist, recipe creator, chef, sushi master, editor, frontend developer and data scientist. Notable commemorations also honor these experts: “Thanks to the retail front-end developers for the poke finger and the products are already on their way,” and “Thanks to the retail sushi masters for a lot of salmon.”

According to Tatiana Krasnoperova, Director of Transformation and Human Resources at X5 Group, customers expect daily essentials like fresh bread, hourly delivery and morning coffee, yet there is substantial work behind meeting those expectations.

“On our professional holiday, we want to express gratitude to all 360,000 X5 employees and to everyone contributing to the retail industry,” Krasnoperova commented.

The group also announced a dedicated landing page where people can send congratulations to colleagues or relatives on Trade Workers’ Day. The site enables the creation of more than 44,000 unique sticker packs that can be shared via Telegram.

In related news, executives noted that turnover at Pyaterochka franchise stores has risen by about 40 percent since the start of the year.
