Weather Outlook: Moscow Faces Dual Storms and Intermittent Snow

Forecast expert Alexander Ilyin from the Meteo-TV forecast center notes that two tropical storms will influence Moscow and the surrounding region this week. Snow and rising temperatures are expected, and he shares insights with RT.

The impact of these storms is already being felt and will persist into the next day. A steady spell of snowfall is anticipated, with 4 to 6 cm of precipitation likely to accumulate during daylight hours. Simultaneously, the air temperature is projected to rise through the day.

The snowfall is expected to ease by Tuesday afternoon, and temperatures are predicted to hold roughly steady thereafter.

Forecasts indicate a cooldown to between -10 and -15 °C on Wednesday and Thursday nights. By Wednesday afternoon, temperatures should hover around -8 to -12 °C. A gradual warming is expected to begin Thursday afternoon, and by Friday a brief thaw could bring temperatures near 0 degrees, according to the forecaster.

Another tropical system is forecast to arrive on Thursday, bringing renewed snowfall of about 7 to 9 cm. Ilyin cautions that traffic conditions could deteriorate overnight from Thursday into Friday due to snow and slush on roadways.

It should be noted that the Hydrometeorology Center also provides forecasts. Starting Monday, warmer conditions are expected for Moscow, with a temperature background slightly above seasonal norms.

Earlier studies underline a key factor in maintaining snow cover during these conditions. The overall outlook emphasizes careful planning for travel and outdoor activities as the week progresses.
