Water and Economy is the focal point of a conference organized to examine climate predictions and the status of water resources in the province amid the climate emergency. The event takes place on a Friday morning at 10:00, in the auditorium of the Institución Ferial Alicantina, with a program that brings together fifteen experts to explore pressing water-related issues facing the region.
Jordi Azorín, chair of the CEV Water Commission and chief executive of Hidraqua, emphasizes a dual mission: reducing climate impact while ensuring reliable water resources for the area. He notes that the audience will hear about practical approaches to maximize reuse, the economic viability of desalination, and the protection of essential supply transfers. His comments reflect a commitment to pragmatic water efficiency and resilient management in the face of change (CEV Alicante, attribution).
Joaquín Pérez, president of CEV Alicante, together with Mireia Mollà, Minister of Agriculture, are charged with inaugurating the congress. Following the opening, Jorge Olcina, a regional geography scholar from the University of Alicante, will deliver a lecture titled Climate Change: Future Scenarios for the Valencian Community. The session aims to provide a clear picture of evolving climate risks and the implications for local water planning.
Two round tables are scheduled for the morning. The first panel features José Vicente Andreu, president of Asaja Alicante, joined by David Beltrá, president of Mármol de Alicante, Nuria Montes, general secretary of the Valencia Community Hotel and Tourism Management Association, and the mayor of Elda, Rubén Alfaro. Information journalist FJ Benito will moderate the discussion, guiding a conversation about regional water challenges and policy responses.
The second round table includes Juan Ángel Conca, manager of the Valencia Community Residual Waters Public Authority; Aránzazu Fidalgo, head of the Hydrological Planning Office at the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation; Joaquín Melgarejo, professor of History and Economic Institutions at the University of Alicante; and Charles Conrad, director of the Taibila Channels Community, who will share insights on water governance, infrastructure planning, and regional cooperation.
A second conference, organized by Teodoro Estrella, Water Director General of the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, will present results and perspectives. The event will conclude with closing remarks from Jordi Azorín, who ties together the themes of water security, climate resilience, and economic considerations for the region.
